My Learning Profile

My learning profile

I am a gestalt and logic learner with an ‘I’ Learning Profile. (Gestalt Dominant)

I learn best by focusing on the whole picture, and emotional relevance to myself, I find work more interesting if it is either related to me or I find it interesting and want to learn more about it. I also learn best and grasp the information when I can see or hear something. Something that helps me a LOT when I am learning something or I have to do a project on is having an example. I love examples, they allow me to know exactly what I am supposed to be doing, and can give me some creative ideas. I also learn best when I get engaged in the work, like asking questions or contributing to the conversation on the topic. Watching a documentary or a video also contributes to how I learn, it REALLY helps me to have a visual when learning something new, I can get the big picture, and then once I understand the big picture I can get into the details that I have to know.

I need to be able to see and hear the whole image/sound and its emotional elements to learn. It helps he to learn when I can see or know what the outcome will be, like examples of what I need to do. Something I need to work on is piecing together information. It is something that I struggle with, it is hard for me to write a research paper because I really have to think about all the details and piece them together to form a paragraph, and eventually the whole report. I need to get involved in whatever the class is doing, so that I can take away information that I was a part of and understood, rather then just sitting their listening, I will more likely remember something if I am a part of it.

The strategies that would help me in my learning are showing me examples. Also placing me in the middle front of the room where I can access my dominant ear and eye. I like a balance of art, music, movement, and collaborating with others. What I think would help me a lot is talking about the topic, so I remember it easier, and understand. I almost always listen to music when I work at home, it is hard for me to just sit down and work, I either get distracted or bored very easily. I think what would help me with that is taking little breaks in between, so that I am not working for hours and hours on end, but I have a little rest time. Music really helps me focus, my mom always says to turn it off, but I work better with it on. I think that if I do some of the things that might help me, I will take more knowledge away from the topic that we were working on.

I would like my teachers to know that I like to fiddle with stuff. During a test, I get distracted very easily and sometimes play with my eraser, it is very hard for me to just sit down for a long period of time and work. Most of the time I do study, but I sometimes find it hard to know what material to study and some effective study habits.I would love to get to know some study habits that would help me to memorize and get the knowledge in my head before a test or assessment. My biggest challenge is to access information and be able to put it together in a linear logical manner so that they can then communicate. I have a HUGE amount of trouble with writing essays and research paper, because I can get the facts (no problem), but putting it together to create a paper is a whole other concept for me. That is something I need to work on, for future essays and research papers. I think that I am doing okay in humanities but with some of the things I learned about myself, I can become an even better student, that learns a lot, that takes away and applies that knowledge to everyday life.
